We installed 40 BP Solar 150 watt, 24 volt panels on a ground-mount rack behind our orchard, angled about 30 degrees due south with no shading issues. Two strings of ten panels in series are then connected in parallel to one of two Sunny Boy 2500U inverters. (i.e 20 panels per inverter)
With both inverters running, the system is generating 30 to 35KWH per day in early March. We sized the system and located the rack to give us an average of 5 productive hours per day. The rack is 1 and 1/4 inch galvanized pipe with Kee Klamp fittings. The panels are installed 4 high on a "GroundTrac" system of twin extruded aluminum rails with CNC machined hold-downs and stainless steel hardware from Professional Solar Products, Inc. The rack is about 350 feet away from the inverters; we connected things together with #6 stranded THNN copper running 2 feet beneath the orchard surface inside 1 and 1/2 inch conduit.

In a year, we hope to generate around 17,000KWH, almost exactly equal to our current use from Pacific Gas & Electric. Colene & I have done almost all the installation work ourselves in order to reduce costs. Final hookup and system testing was done by our solar contractor, Advance Power in Calpella. These are really good folks to work with, check out www.zapsucker.com for more information.
